Farmhouse Redux - Slideshows - Dwell
Posting this again for the door. A door that doesn’t require space to swing but also isn’t cheesy.
Being a fan of all things related to You Look Nice Today and Jordan, Jesse, Go! I started following Adam and Jesse’s new clothing blog even though I have a mostly practical relationship with clothes. And I decided to send in a question. Their answer is pretty good. I guess I need to get myself a sport coat.
Q&A
I’m a teacher. What should I wear?
1. As you know, I’m not rich.
2. I’m 32.
3. I have two kids.
4. I teach physics.I love this one. As a teacher, you have a great uniform to tap into and tweak to your heart’s content.
Here’s what I recommend:
- Some slim-fitting, flattering chinos, like the Uniqlo Vintage Chino.
- Some tasteful raw blue jeans.
- Some slim-fitting cords — J. Crew after Christmas is a great source.
- A few vintage corduroy and tweed sportcoats. You can get lovely vintage Harris and Donegal tweeds very inexpensively on Ebay. Avoid exaggerated 70s styles (super-wide lapels) and you’ll be fine.
- Plain, well-fitted white and blue oxford shirts.
- Some boots.
- Knit ties and v-neck sweaters as appropriate.
Mix at will.
“ To some students, getting cues from the teacher rather than thinking about the math has become such an ingrained habit that it is their entire modus operandi when doing math with an expert around (teacher, tutor, parent, peer, etc.). They usually have lost faith in their ability to have math actually make sense to them, and this cueing has become their sole survival strategy. They regularly fail tests and have come to accept this, but they would rather fake you out than admit ignorance – understandable, since they often carry a feeling of stupidity arising from their lost faith, and admitting ignorance would mean exposing this supposed stupidity. So they watch you and produce the right answers more often than not. Not with any sense of trickery or getting over on anyone – often, they’re barely conscious of the game. But it’s how they survive. ”

This guy has some amazing stuff. If you had permission and a nice color printer this could make a classroom like real nice.
